United Nations World FoodProgramme and Ethics2IntroductionThe World Food Programme (WFP), is the largest charitable establishment committed toeradicating hunger worldwide. It was formed in 1961 and has its headquarters in Rome, Italy. The WFP aims to eradicate the global need for food aid by eradicating poverty.a.The Role of Corporations in Helping the Mission of the WFPAs WFP (2014) appropriately states, no isolated company can solve the current globalfood and nutrition security challenges as this load is too large to be borne by a singlecompany. In light of this the WFP needs all the assistance possible from other corporations inachieving its mission. The WFP has partnered with corporations such as governments, otherUnited Nations agencies, private corporations, civil society, academia, non-governmentalorganizations, and regional as well as international organizations (WFP, 2014). Thesecorporations can play several roles in assisting the WFP to achieve its mission by:1)Supporting the WFP by way of implementing Corporate Social Responsibilityinitiatives which can help to eliminate hunger in communities by starting up farminginitiatives and providing all the necessary input for the communities that the WFPsupports. They could also improve productivity through availing necessarytechnology as well as skills that can improve efficiency.2)Other fellow humanitarian corporations can partner with the WFP and share areas tosupport. This would ease the burden of the WFP, while promoting efficiency, cuttingcosts and preventing a duplication of efforts (WFP, 2014).3)Other corporations that may not be in the humanitarian industry can support the WFPmission by providing funding for its programmes such as research and developmentas a way of supporting innovation. They could also provide funding for the productionand distribution of food.
