As ouractions have been not in favor of protecting this planet, we have seen natural disasters striking us moreoften in the form of flash floods, earthquakes, blizzards, tsunamis, and cyclones.With this learning module, another hopes that you will be provide with meaningful learningexperience as well as develop concern for answering our environment.INTRODUCTIONAs you go along with this module, may you be enlightened of what was happening around us andthus how humans contributed to its devastation. Inour intellectual capacity has even made it possible for us to venture into space, allowing us a view of theuniqueness of our planet in the solar system. However, we are overpowering the planet with ourburgeoning population; transforming forests, prairies, and deserts to meet our needs and desires; andconsuming ever increasing amounts of Earth’s abundant but finite resources—rich topsoil, clean water, andbreathable air.Agriculture is one of the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, where farmingof domesticated species created food surpluses that enable people to liveLESSON 1 – PEOPLE AND POPULATIONOBJECTIVES:At the end of this lesson, students should expected to learn:Identify environmental, social health, public policy and economic factors that influence populationgrowth.State how population growth is influenced.Explain sustainable development.Connect the global climate change trends with segment of existing and future populations that areat a greater risk due to environmental exposure.Value the perspective brought by other disciplines in solving population challenges.WHAT IS POPULATIONHuman population refers to the number of people living in a particular area, from a village to theworld as a whole. A secondary meaning of population is the inhabitants themselves, but in most usespopulation means numbers. Group of individuals belonging to the same species that inhabit a specificgeographic location at a specific point in time.
