My medium is television and two ethical issues that this medium is faced with are censorship, and racism. Censorship in America is running rampant. Fox is now censoring a cartoon butt of Peter Griffin by pixilation over the apparently offensive area on the networks hit series, “Family Guy”. This is not the only kind of censorship that television has to deal with. They also have to consider profanity, offense to religion, and violence. James Dobson, most known for his “Focus on the Family” radio talk show and newsletters, and his followers seem to want to censor everything that does not fit their view of appropriate. Dobson feels that television should focus solely on educational and learning purposes and should bring you closer to God. In 2005, Dobson asked all schools and appealed to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to reject a video which includes Spongebob Squarepants, among many other cartoon characters claiming that the video “promotes the acceptance of homosexuality”. This video is a remake of the 1979 hit song "We Are Family" using the voices and images of more than a 100 cartoon stars.
