THE FITNESS CLUB 2 Case Background The Fitness Club is a local gym with exercise classes. One of the members complains about way the club tracks classes. Her son is home on summer vacation, and volunteers to create an Access database to do a better job of tracking the Fitness Club’s classes. He has experience with Access, and is confident in his ability to create the database. In exchange for creating the database, the clients son will be able to take free classes during the summer. The owners son started one last summer but did not have time to finish. He already created four tables. The ‘Students’ table has each students identification number, full name, address, and phone number. The ‘Instructors’ table keeps track of all the instructors working for the fitness club. This table has each instructors identification number, full name, complete address, and phone number. The ‘Classes’ table describes all the different types of classes offered. Each class, this table lists a unique identification number, class name, class instructor, start and end times, day of the week the class is held, and the start date of the class. The ‘Registration’ table records the registration of each class member by listing the student identification number, and the class identification number. Description of the Problem The Fitness Club needs a better method to track classes. They need a system to track the following information. They need to track students who register for the different classes offered. They currently do not have an easy system in place to track the registrants. They also need to be able to quickly answer questions concerning the classes. They need a description of each type of class and details about the class. They need to know if classes are full, which instructor teaches

THE FITNESS CLUB 3 the classes, what days the classes are on and how long each class lasts. Many clients call asking for classes based on which instructor is teaching the class, and other clients need to know how long the class lasts. In addition to the information about the classes offered, they need to track each instructor. They need a payroll report system in place that will track the hours the instructors work, because they are paid each week according to the class hours they taught. The new system will make this information easily accessible. Description of the Solution
