Dr.Mullen MIS 371 M 2-4:30pm Ch.3 Pg 95 1) Unreasonable deadlines are common in project management, perhaps their work plan wasn’t realistic, and they have an overly optimistic schedule. Use a conservative schedule, and plan for problems, are the best methods. Complications arise; estimation of allocated time may be inaccurate; staff may get sick or reassigned to another project, and now have new people to train. Other problems are the resources available, monies, equipment and other deliverables, may not be ready on time. A Project Manager can use PERT, and Gantt charts to measure progression of deadlines. Keep updated information on who is doing what and show progress reports at staff meeting. Utilizing these tools, with the ability to keep track of deadlines, along with refining the deadlines, or reducing functionality, are an appropriate way to react to an unreasonable demand. Other methods would be to cut back the process to only critical aspects of the SDLC, known as the CPM (critical path method). 2) Trade-off’s are common in project management.
