Biomechanics Lab 4: Production of Maximum VelocityThe production of maximum velocity requires that the joints be used in sequence from largest tosmallest.Consider the order of joints used in a hockey slap shot, a golf swing, or an overhand throw suchas a baseball pitch.Illustrating the phases of movement, draw a series of stick figures to show the performance ofthe skill you chose, using the larger, slower joints first, followed by the smaller faster joints.Attempt to perform the skill without the larger joints being involved.Add the use of shoulders, hips, and torso in the proper sequence to improve the performance ofthe skill.Explain how and why the use of all joints from largest to smallest increases the velocityachieved in the performance of these types of skills.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unformatted text preview: Shoulders: the shoulders are what control the direction of the swing, the initial velocity, and force. The shoulders are what determine how fast and how powerful your shot is. Hips: the hips help put most of your body into that swing motion which will increase the velocity of the swing. Torso: since the shoulder is connected to the torso area, adding an extra swing is like adding power from the center and base. Elbows: starting with abend in the elbows then slowly straightening them out as the swing progresses adds extra force and velocity. Knees: similar to the elbows, it is all about bending and straightening then out. When you pull your arms back getting ready for the swing, bend the knees. When you are following through it is important to have them straight. It helps with the overall full-body motion, which adds velocity....
