Soc 201 Reaction Paper # 2 Kyle Bouffard March 27, 2008 I would like to discuss how the country and government has constantly brought down minorities throughout the history of our country. Starting with slavery to the bogus crack cocaine laws. Our country has made great strides in terms of social equality but has a long way to go to be totally equal. One thing in class we have been discussing lately is how minorities don’t get the same opportunities as whites and why that is. I have noticed in our class and in my life experiences that minorities don’t really seem to get the same breaks as whites. One perfect example of how our country is more geared towards white America is that instead of people hiring on basis of education and skill they had to implement affirmative action so white America would hire those equally skilled minorities. That shows that our country is clearly not color blind and still somewhat racist when the government has to put in a law like that. I feel that in recent years we have gotten better, the fact the Barack
