While there is considered to be a multitude of ethical issues in sports; whether it be inhigh school sports, intercollegiate sports, or on a professional or Olympic level, they always tendto arise in ways that call for lengthy discussions and debates, and sometimes maybe eventually, reform. The sports world is capable of bringing people and cultures together ( for example, soccer culture around the world). Supporting an athlete or a specific team brings a sense ofunity and loyalty within a community. These are just some examples of the beautiful attributessports culture has to offer. But with light, also comes darkness. Below I will mention merely afew ethical issues that I find to be on a top scale spectrum with respect to how they affectsports culture. The first ethical issue will be centered around intercollegiate sports and athletics. Onesubject related to the code of ethics that is often talked about is whether or not student-athletes are being exploited by not being properly compensated for their athletic endeavors andsuccesses that ultimately bring in a truckload of money to the institution they are playing for.
