Nature vs. Nurture Some theorists argue that development is based on innate, genetic influences that a child is born with, also known as nature. Others say that development is based on environmental stimulation that is learned through experiences, also known as nurture. While a number of theorists base there findings on the fact that development actually comes from both what one is born with and what is learned, a combination of nature and nurture. B. Sociocultural Says that children do not just learn from direct surroundings, but from a larger social area in which they live. Through contact with others and experiences of the child, sociocultural context is composed of various aspects such as; values, unique customs, and thoughts of proper ways to raising children and affect everything from self-esteem and personality, to the type of education a child receives.
