Types of Berth structures: 1- Solid Type such as: Concrete blocks R.C caissons Sheet pile walls Cellular type structure 2- Open type berth such as: Piles (steel piles, R.C piles or timber piles) Type of berth may be selected based on the type of cargo, soil conditions and degree of energy absorption due to ship berthing. Information needed for design of berthing facilities: 1- Determination of berthing top level 2- Determination of berthing length and water depth 3- Types of cargo, cranes and loads...etc. 4- Soil conditions 5- Type of fill used in construction
