At first, addiction to drugs is voluntary, meaning you choose to take the drugs. However,
in continuation to using drugs, it becomes clear that the drugs become addictive and it is harder
to stop the usage of them. In some other cases, addiction is genetically passed down through
parent to child. (Drug Addiction is a Disease Not a Habit). Drug addiction changes the brain in
two ways, “(1) by imitating the brain’s natural chemical messengers and (2) by over stimulating
the “reward circuit” of the brain” (DrugFacts: Understanding Drug Abuse and Addiction).
