Death is one of the most fundamental facts of life. After wedie, there are 4 stages of changes that occur in the body.They are used, primarily, to determine the time of death orpost mortem index (PMI) in forensic pathology.
All deceased children are treated w/ respect while beingprovided end-of-life careFamily members are allowed to participate in theactivities to complete end-of-life care needsReligious practices, cultural rituals, and any otherrequest are taken into consideration.
1.RN/LPN/HCP is responsible for ensuring thatall aspects of post mortem care arecompleted.2.PURPOSE To clean and prepare the patientsbody before it is transported to the morgue
POINTS TO REMEMBER1.Respect the dead body. Avoid unnecessaryexposure and irrelevant conversations.2.The body should be identified properly.3.Clothing’s, jewelry and other valuables orbelongings must be kept and cared for properly.
ASSESSMENT1. Verify that patient has been pronounceddead by the physician.2. Identify cadaver, and collect his/herbelongings for labeling.
PLANNING1. Collect necessary equipment:a. Bathing suppliesb. Shroud or morgue bagc. 3 identification tagd. Roll of gauzee. Paper/plastic bag for personal belongingsf. Morgue cart
