Critical Report #6 1.) I agree with Hall’s theory whole-heartedly. The mass media are most definitely powerful ideological tools. The mass media can take a situation and spin it in order to make the viewers believe what the source wants them to believe. People rely on their media sources to inform them of what is happening in the world around them. The mass media is the “association promotion vehicle”; they provide the “images, concepts, & premises which provide the framework through which we represent, interpret, understand & ‘make sense’ of some aspect of social existence”. (Class notes) The mass media molds the minds of people; they are able to make people thin the way they want them to. A great example of the media forming the opinions of the public is the events after the 9/11 attacks. The repetition of the planes crashing into the World Trades Centers will forever be embedded in my mind and the minds of all Americans.
