Sociology 100 11-11:50am MWF Extra Credit Matrix In the Matrix , there are a few different sociological issues and concepts that the film portrays. The Matrix involves social control and simulation. The main character is stuck living in a world he is blind to. He does not see that he is being told what to do every day of his life. He lives totally blind to the idea that he is just a “battery” that powers the world. The film describes a future in which our world is actually the Matrix, an artificial reality created by sentient machines in order to pacify, subdue and make use of the human population as an energy source by growing them and connecting them to the Matrix with cybernetic implants. His job, his apartment, and everything else he owns and does are completely pointless. He is going to be the “battery” for his company, and when he is done or “used out”, he will be replaced.
