Historical and Contemporary Theories of Management If we were to analyze management approaches from the later portion of the 18 th century and compare them to now, we would notice drastic changes and differences. Changes in earlier methods of management were advanced by start of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was a time period during the 18 th and 19 th centuries when desolate and rural parts of America and Europe became industrial. This drastic change in employment opportunities called for new methods of management. It was in the 1880’s -90’s when Frederick Winslow Taylor developed the theory of Scientific Management, or “Taylorism”. Taylorism is a theory of management that analyzes and synthesizes workflows.
