ADPR 3110 ADVERTISING MESSAGE STRATEGY Spring 2016 Mrs. Sabrena Deal [email protected] Grady 251 OFFICE HOURS: Mon/Wed 12: 15 pm - 2:15 pm or by Appointment This course will equip you with a basic understanding of how to communicate effectively on a visual level through the use of headlines, content, imagery, layout, and verbal presentation. Regardless of the platform, all good advertising goes through a similar creative process. You will learn to determine the needs of your client, define your audience, pinpoint the problem(s), learn to brainstorm, identify solutions, navigate ethical and legal considerations, execute various design examples, and learn to articulate your ideas with authority. You will learn to work independently as well as with a creative team in order to strengthen your communication skills. The strength of the team depends on the willingness of each individual to contribute in significant ways (i.e. ideas, creative execution, presentation). Advertising writing, layout, and art direction. Students learn the basics of ad design and strategic messaging from tweets to magazine ads, to viral-video scripts, to TV spots. Concepts learned in Principles of Advertising or comparable courses are applied to create targeted advertising. NATURE OF COURSE CONTENT COURSE DESCRIPTION LEARNING OBJECTIVES TEXTBOOKS Projects & Assignments This course will combine lectures and demonstrations with computer lab tutorials and projects. Lab time during class periods is limited and students are expected to spend additional time working in the labs to complete assignments. You will 1. TESTS & QUIZZES GRADING Tests and quizzes will cover material presented in lectures, readings and online materials. They will be administered via ELC in class and will include matching, multiple choice, true false, and short answer questions about content. It will be pertinent to read the information from the textbook to succeed in the tests and quizzes. Quizzes/Tests may be taken for up to half credit in the case of an unexcused absence. Arriving after the start of class time for a quiz, test or final exam will result in a grade of no more than half credit.
