Popular discourse on technology : information and views conveyed by the media on whats happening now; views expressed by industry and politicians 2. Historical accounts of technology: discourse on howe we got here, previous development of our culture, society, civilization etc. Talk of heroic or genius inventors suggests that . The need for technology existed all along, waited to be uncovered There are inherently good technologies Technology has its own logic and momentum Talk of Genius inventors glosses over the fact that Ideas dont occur to inventors out of thin air Many people have to be persuaded to buy into an idea for it to be made into an artefact The general public must embrace it Communication, knowledge, meaning, debate, publicity and perusuasion are crucial to a products development Technology is inseparable from culture and society Week 3: People and Things Alternative View : Innovation NOT Invention Joseph Schumpeter Invention : Generation of A New Concept Innovation : its communication or transfer beyond the originators Ideation: occurs when a technologist envisages the devices gets the idea, formulates the problems involved and hypothesizes a solution.
