Absolutism and Revolution PortfolioIn our democratic society and government today, the rights we have aspeople are protected and we as people are encouraged to exercise these rights.However, governments of the past felt different about what rights the governedpeople should and shouldn’t have. Therefore, this spurred many philosophers andwriters to write about their ideas on rights and government. The failures of pastgovernments gave incentive for documents such as “The US Bill of Rights” to becreated. God has given every person on earth a set of natural rights that shouldn’tbe violated. The works, “Two Treatises of Government” by John Locke and“Leviathan” by Thomas Hobbes both explain that as people we have rights andthose in charge of governing us need to understand these rights and valueprotecting them and ourselves.In “Two Treatises of Government”, John Locke explains the significance ofhaving natural laws and why they must be upheld by the government and practicedby the people. “Thestate of naturehas a law of nature to govern it, which obligesevery one: and reason, which is that law, teaches all mankind, who will but consult
