LagulaSection: Sec15Date Submitted: 10/18/2021I. INTRODUCTIONThe special senses are important that are made up of very complex receptor apparatus inorder to respond properly to specific stimulus.II. ACCOMPLISH THE ACTIVITY TABLE 1.GUIDE QUESTIONSANSWERS9.01A. Define sensation. Our sensory receptors provide us withinformation about the physical world, which we call sensation. Sensoryreceptors are neurons with specializedfunctions that respond to specific stimuli.Sensation occurs when sensoryinformation is detected by a sensoryreceptor. Vision, hearing or audition, smell or olfaction, taste or gustation, andtouch or also known as somatosensationare the five senses we have However, wehave sensory systems that offerinformation about balance or equilibriumor also known as vestibular sense, bodilyposition and movement or theproprioception and kinesthesia, pain ornociception, and temperature or thethermoception. An absolute threshold canbe used to indicate the sensitivity of asensory system to the relevant inputs. Theabsolute threshold is the amount ofstimulus energy that must be present inorder for the stimulus to be detected 50%of the time.9.01B. Distinguish between general senses andspecial senses. There are two different groups of senses,we have the general senses and specialsenses. The general senses are senseswhich contain receptors that are found

Thesesenses are further divided into twogroups, the somatic senses and thevisceral senses. On the other hand, specialsenses are those senses that are morespecialized with its structure and it isinclined to the specific part of our body. Some of the special senses in our body arethe olfaction and tase.
