Psychology of Spirituality Notes February 7, 2008 Discussion of Vaughn Article: How do we know a person is intelligent? o Based on different factors, including their behaviors and statements Type of Intelligence: Emotional o Emotional intelligence can possibly be proven by observation. o There are individual differences, based on a spectrum o A person with emotional intelligence should not only be aware of and able to control their own emotions, but also be aware of others’ emotional states. o May be a partially innate type of intelligence Gardener: types of intelligence must: o Develop over time o Breakdown with brain damage o Be seen in gifted people o Show evidence of evolving over millennia o Be able to be identified cross-culturally o Have psychometric studies, and o Have a set of core operations Spiritual Intelligence: o How do you know a person is spiritually intelligent? Through observation of practices, conversations with the person
