Devin Seese 3409531 Joe Kinney Problem 4: Motion Up and Down an Incline Problem Description: In this problem, a car is propelled up an incline, shortly pauses at the top of the track, and reverses direction and rolls backwards down the track to the bottom. You must compute the acceleration of the car throughout the car’s motion and determine if the acceleration of an object moving up a ramp is different from that of an object moving down the same ramp. This problem investigates the magnitude of acceleration while being propelled up a ramp and then free falling back down to the bottom. First, predictions were made in regards to the acceleration of the rollercoaster car. Second, the ramp was assembled and the acceleration of the car was tested and recorded. Human error could occur at this step (stop watch operation). Finally, the motion of the car was recorded by video equipment and was analyzed using a computer program. The results and the predictions were recorded and compared. The lab required use of a stopwatch, cart, meter stick, end stop, video equipment, and analytical computer software. Prediction: In this problem we are examining the difference between the acceleration of a cart rolling up a ramp and rolling back down the ramp. This can be illustrated by drawing two separate graphs: the acceleration of the car going up the track and the acceleration of the car going down the track. Acc. Up the ramp Acc. Down the ramp Acc.
