Kris Kelly Calorimetric Determination Lab CHEM 122L 3/3/08 Introduction/Background: This experiment focuses on finding the equilibrium constant of the reaction between [SCN - ], [Fe 2+ ], and [FeNCS 2+ ]. It is possible to determine the concentration of FeNCS 2+ spectrophotometrically due to the fact that it is highly colored. The equilibrium constant describes the rate at which the reaction occurs both forward and backward at the same pace.
