Kris Kelly Cultural Enhancement HIST 112H 2/11/08 Across The Sixties Across the Universe is a recently released musical about a period in the life of the main character, Jude, in the midst of the sixties. As many people around may tell you, Jude is a name in a famous Beatles song “Hey Jude.” This film includes over a dozen classic Beatles tunes in all different contexts, from Jude leaving his girlfriend behind to his friend Max being drafted into the Vietnam war. As the film progresses, the audience is thrown into a psychedelic spin as colors, sounds, and images all blend together as may people often accounted for due to drug influences of the day. Jude is taken on an emotional roller coaster as his newfound love, Lucy, joins the radical antiwar movement and everything around him begins to collapse. The 1960s was a time of much confusion and desperation as many Americans were either drafted into the seemingly pointless wars of the time, and the ones that stayed home engaged in radical protests and hyped up drug use.
