Week 5 Kristyn Mugrauer Assignment 5 AC574 Chapter 13: 13-5: Computer forensic specialists analyze electronic data in order to ensure its authenticity as well as to ensure whether or not it is admissible in a courtroom. For example, the data must be analyzed because it is easy to manipulate date and time stamps among many other items. Today if the auditor or the accountant does not have the technical ability to understand the company's digital network, then there is little hope of identifying the fraudulent manipulations so easily carried out in cybercrimes. Without auditing assurances regarding the integrity of the company's digital network, there can be no assurances regarding corporate financial reports either 13-7: Electronic evidence can be easily destroyed and not admissible as evidence through a variety of ways. From the moment fraud is suspected, if the proper techniques are not taken, which include properly preserving, securing, and collecting the data. Additionally, if the computer is simply powered off, this could cause entries to be written into the computer’s log or registry files, which then makes it inadmissible in the courtroom. The reason for electronic evidence being so easily destroyed and not admissible as evidence is because of how easily one can manipulate it. Chapter 14:
