OTHER SCHOOLS OF PHILOSOPHY DURING THE WARRING STATES PERIOD 1)Mozi - Moism (480 - 390 BC) Master Mozi (like Confucius): bring peace, prosperity ideal to people Position of activists We don’t know much about spiritual world Would agree if 5 relationships (but disagree on how to achieve it) Society = strict hierarchy hierarchy relationships Disagree: Rite (li)/Morality = Confucius Human nature Mozi believed that self-interest, natural to pursue desires Universal love, impartial caring How to achieve respect Criticized Family: is nothing beyond a special interest - primary unit of virtue (Confucius) = denied Ideal ruler = intelligence* while Confucius = morality of ruler Man of worthy = talented, has abilities (while Confucius worthy man = noble) Moism = punishment and reward system - Rituals are important and should be conducted at no waste of energy , unlike Confucius with his rites (li) and sacrifices, i.e. 3 years of mourning period (man mourning death of parents for 3 years)
