HPER-J100 10/16/08 Ballet of Our Time Review Ballet of Our Time was a compilation of three different ballets . Twyla Tharp choreographed the first piece , Sweet Fields , in 1996 . It was a modern piece that had an acapella chorus instead of the traditional orchestra . The dancers were outfitted in silky blouses , which flowed around as they danced . After seeing this piece , it confirmed my suspicions that modern ballet is not for me . I am sure that behind the hand gyrations and back massages there was a hidden and subtle message , but I for one am not very good at picking out the meaning from such an abstract performance . Because I have no modern dance training , I would not be able to critique or comment on the quality of dancing . As a classically trained dancer , however , it was almost painful to watch dancers with such skill (as I learned later in the evening) to have such turned in stances and tondues .
