He sacrifices himself, also, telling them to take his life rather than his friend’s. - This is the ideal Chinese behavior. - The story shows the superiority of the Chinese belief system over the barbarians’. - The moral civilization of the Chinese is more superior. - Barbarians, however, can also be civilized if shown an example (like Hsun Chu-po). o The barbarians can end up better people with the help of the Chinese. 2) Wu Pao-an Ransoms His Friend - Friend relationship Wu Pao-an & Kuo Chung-hsiang - Formed a friendship without even knowing each other. o They were from the same hometown because of this they were able to form their friendship. -
