Cody Tehan Inquiry 4 Curtis Dickerson Today, professional athletes are seen and heard all over the place. They are constantly talked about on television, in newspapers, and seen in public. Moreover, many younger athletes look up to these athletes as people they aspire to be like in the future. This leads me to my question: what are the positive and negative implications of younger generations looking up to professional athletes’ as role models? All my life I have been heavily involved in sports. Growing up I was always outside throwing the football with friends or playing baseball at the park. I would always watch Buffalo sports teams on television as well. I idolized athletes like Derek Jeter, Tiger Woods, and Ryan Miller, who are hard working, determined, and have great leadership abilities. I always wanted to become a professional athlete, it seemed like the dream job. However, over the past five years or so, many cheating scandals have arisen. Athletes like Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, and many others have been caught cheating. They utilized performance-enhancing drugs to get an advantage over other athletes in their respective sports. So while I saw them as all-star performers with great work ethics, they were actually cheating. Athletes like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant, have been caught cheating on their wives. These are athletes who practically everyone had tons of respect for. However, after hearing about them cheating on their wives, many
