Running Head: AMERICA’S OWN 1 America’s Own Terrorists and Societies’ Reactions Brett Baker ENG 122 Prof. Jason D. Romero April 8, 2013
AMERICA’S OWN 2 I. Introduction A. Thesis Statement Terrorists act out of anger towards a government. They seek to destroy the government and society through destructive acts, but instead of destroying or damaging society, this paper will argue that it is the terrorist own actions that in fact strengthen the society. II. Body Paragraph #1- Topic Sentence #1 One of the biggest terrorist acts that happened in our history that most people don’t realize is the assassination of President Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. A. Supporting Evidence “Characteristically, Booth later charmed his way back into Flynn's company; in much the same way he also befriended Edgar Allan Poe, Sam Houston and Andrew Jackson. En route, he married, separated, seduced women by the score, and then took a second wife -- sans benefit of clergy -- to produce 10 children. Six survived to maturity, and several showed periodic signs of insanity.”(Kanfer, 1992) “Scholars like Albert Furtwangler and John P. Andrews have already demonstrated in writing their theories concerning the relationship between Shakespearean tragedy, especially Hamlet and Julius Caesar, and John Wilkes Booth's successful plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865” (Ronnick, 1996). B. Explanation John Wilkes Booth was in a very abnormal household and also an abusive one as well. His father was a very big alcoholic and when he drank he became abusive. Acting played a big part in the Booth family. Booth was into most of the dark plays which was what he used for his plot to kill the president.
