Benjamin Kronenberger 17 March 2008 English 122S 025 Book Review: Tuesdays with Morrie Tuesdays with Morrie is written by a highly accredited columnist for a Detroit newspaper. His name is Mitch Albom. He wrote this book on the firsthand account of his learning from Morrie Schwartz’s final class in which he was the only student. His real qualifications for writing this book don’t stem from his successful writing career though. Mitch’s true qualifications extend from their relationship and the respect that he had for Morrie as a friend, teacher, and father figure. Mitch was one of Morrie Schwartz’s students at Brandeis University. Morrie was Mitch’s favorite teacher and they often met on Tuesdays to discuss school work and life in general. Mitch went on to take all of the classes that Morrie taught, and at graduation, he promised to keep in touch with him. The story begins in the 1979 with the graduation of Mitch. Mitch and Morrie wouldn’t meet again until 1994. By sheer coincidence, Mitch was channel surfing and came across an episode of Nightline . He just happened to hear the name Morrie Schwartz mentioned and started watching. Much to his surprise Morrie was actually on the television and dying of a horrible disease. Mitch makes it his goal to get back in touch with Morrie and does so for 14 consecutive Tuesdays until Morrie’s inevitable death due to the disease. Throughout Tuesdays with Morrie Mitch proves himself to be a skilled writer and a fabulous story teller. He tells his story with Morrie in an easy to read version that is used in groups all around the world. Mitch made sure to get his final thesis
