Benjamin Kronenberger Twelfth Night – Study and Discussion Guide Plot: -Viola and Sebastian, who are brother and sister, are shipwrecked and separated. Viola acts like a man, her naming herself Cesario, and begins a life on the island she washes up on. She becomes a piano player for Orsino. Orsino is in love with Lady Olivia who wants nothing to do with him so he sends Cesario over to talk with her. Lady Olivia falls in love with Cesario, not knowing she is a female, and in the mean time Cesario falls in love with Orsino. Cesario can’t tell Orsino though because he thinks she is a male. Cesario and Orsino go to Olivia’s where Olivia welcomes Cesario to be her new husband. With just enough time for Orsino to be angry, Sebastian shows up and Viola is revealed. Orsino, relieved to find out Cesario is actually a woman, decides to marry Viola and Sebastian marries Olivia in place of Cesario. -Twelfth night is a comedy. I say this because nobody dies, which would make it a tragedy. This is also a comedy because of the plot. A female acts like a male, falls in love with a male and in the mean time another woman has fallen in love with her. Another reason this is a comedy is because in the end, everything gets resolved and
