Our focus will be on philosophical theories of right and wrong action, but examining these will involve looking at other issues, for example, worries about the possibility of moral principles, questions about the good, accounts of well-being, and so on. Required texts: Shelly Kagan, Normative Ethics Rosalind Hursthouse, On Virtue Ethics Articles and other supplementary materials will be placed on edisk. Requirements: Two papers: 25% each A take-home final: 25% I could be talked out of this if theres another sort of assignment youd prefer in its place.
