Our focus will be on philosophical theories of right and wrong action, but examining these will involve looking at other issues, for example, worries about the possibility of moral principles, questions about the good, accounts of well-being, and so on. Required texts: Shelly Kagan, Normative Ethics Rosalind Hursthouse, On Virtue Ethics • Articles and other supplementary materials will be placed on edisk. Requirements: Two papers: 25% each A take-home final: 25% • I could be talked out of this if there’s another sort of assignment you’d prefer in its place. Class participation, presentations & short written assignments: 25% Policies: Late papers will not be accepted unless you have arranged for an extension in advance....
