Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Nationals specification in Business – Issue 1 – January 2010 © Edexcel Limited 2009 1 Unit 33: The Impact of Communications Technology on Business Unit code: L/502/5485 QCF Level 3: BTEC National Credit value: 10 Guided learning hours: 60 Aim and purpose The aim of this unit is to provide an overview of the use of the internet by business organisat develop learners’ skills so that they become proficient business users of the internet Unit introduction At the time of writing, the UK is Europe’s second largest e-commerce economy, with two-third consumers having shopped online. The power of the internet continues to grow with 29 millio having used it in the three month period up to February 2006. It is predicted, that by 2012 £1 all new commerce in the UK will be online. All usage measures of internet and related techno to rise with seemingly relentless growth in access to the internet and uses such as music dow networking sites and instant messaging. Firstly learners will learn how the internet is organised and how servers and internet service p together and conform to protocols. Next, learners will consider the trends in the use of the int worldwide web (www), and current key developments. Learners will then develop a range of practical skills in using the internet for different types o including setting up of an internet connected computer, and the internet and worldwide web research, procurement, promotion and communication, using a range of methods. Having developed a fuller understanding of the range of uses of the internet and worldwide w will then explore the reasons behind the trends by examining the benefits of internet use from view of organisations and customers. They will also examine the implications of competitive p organisations as e-business has grown. Finally, learners will consider the actions that are being taken at national, organisational and meet the ongoing challenges created by the rapid development of e-business. At national lev explore government actions such as the establishment of an appropriate legislative framewor business development of e-business and the provision of learning opportunities to enable ind the necessary skills.
