Following an in-depth reading and further research on Jamaican Kincaid's novel Lucy, I have learned and comprehended more about the presence and occurrences of feminism and racism in many regions of the world. We can see throughout the narrative that, despite her intelligence, Lucy was not sent to a higher education institution like her brothers. Lucy cannot enjoy this beauty since daffodils do not bloom on her island, despite being urged to memorize a poem about daffodils that remembers the beauty of daffodils. Lucy is cheered after delivering the poetry, and she admits that she is feeling fake at the time. Despite her great dislike for them, she believes that others regard her as English on the inside. The story has helped me appreciate the need for gender equality among children since inequity has led to bitterness and forced Lucy to seek independence and the freedom to develop her own identity independent of her mother's.
