Course materials will be provided and/or available online.Online Resources :http:///careerservicesCourse Objective:The objective of this course is to introduce incoming freshmen to a successful path in college. It is meant to help prepare students for a successful collegiate career in any field of study.Course Description:This one credit hour course is designed to introduce freshmen to the tools and techniques thatwill enhance their transition to college and improve their academic success. Goal setting, timemanagement, faculty/peer interaction, and other academic skills applicable to success in allmajors will be addressed. Additionally, this course is a university–wide requirement forgraduation and students must make a passing grade.Students will be encouraged to establishsupportive relationships with peers, staff, and faculty to become more integrated into theacademic community. Learning Outcomes:1.Student will learn core curriculum, degree requirements, and how to calculate GPA.2.Student will learn about the Academic Code of Conduct and the Non-academic Code of Conduct.3.Student will learn about financial aid and budgeting.4.Student will learn about careers; campus, career, and student resources; to clarify/reinforce academic and career goals, including a back-up plan.
5.Student will learn about academic skills.ExpectationsAttend class and be on timeTurn off cell phones during class. If the cell phone is needed for an emergency situation, please notify the instructor before class begins.Computers in the classroom may only be used to enhance class conversations and topics. Come to class prepared with all completed assignments, exercises, and readings.Be an active participant in classroom activities and discussions.Be open to learning about yourself and applying what you learn.Be respectful of others’ opinions and ideas.UAB requires that each student have an e-mail address. You are responsible forinformation communicated to you at your UAB email address.If you do not follow these expectations, you will lose a point for every expectation youdisobey during class.Class AttendanceClass attendance is expected. To fully gain the advantage of the information presented, you will need to participate in both in-class and out-of-class assignments. Attendance willbe taken at the beginning of every class. If you need to leave class early or arrive to class late, please notify the instructor in advance. If you miss more than 10 minutes of class, you will be considered absent for that class meeting.
