History 310 and 311Spring 2022Course descriptionFor both history 310 and 311 I have adopted a similar format. My courses consist of anintegrated, mutually reinforcing, holistic approach to learning. I know you are all familiar withHome Depot’s slogan: ‘Where Doers do more.’ In my classes, students do more in more ways todo well and achieve their objectives. Engagement and immersion are two key concepts in active,critically thinking learning. Each of you is to be an engaged, active learner not merely a passivereceiver of information. Doers in historical studies do more.*Our course(s) is NOT on canvas. We have a special website for the course:jonathannielson.com. Click ‘Academic Portal’ and both History 310 and 311 materials willpopulate. Easy to navigate and user friendly! All class related communication is by CLASSEMAIL ([email protected]).The class is divided into six ‘task’ segments described on the website: 1) weekly in-class or‘class time’ meetings; 2) weekly assigned chapters in the text; 3) discussion groups; 4) exams; 5)written work-article and video-lecture summaries; and 6) course journal. There will also be‘extra credit’ opportunities.
