Stuart Kerr (0723219) Doctor Henderson English 135 26 March 2008 Child obesity is now an epidemic. One of the main contributors to this problem is lack of physical activity. In today’s society everything is instant, whether it be food, television, the Internet or e-mail. People have come to expect that instantness in other areas of their lives, where it is simply not applicable. Good physical health is not achieved instantly, as one must work to achieve it. This is why physical education should be made mandatory in schools. To maintain a good level of physical health, one must stay physically active. For the youth of today this does not seem to be a priority. Video games, instant messaging and television are much more popular choices than playing road hockey, going for a bike ride or kicking a ball around. This is a much bigger issue and problem than most people give credit to. In school we are taught to be accepting of others, and their choices. However, it seems that, that acceptiveness is quite selective.
