The great play writer Shakespeare was known for his drama filled plays and poems, but also how deep they went into. His play, Othello was no different. Even the great man himself was inspired by others and some of the inspiration from another author can be seen within Othello . Not only that is shown within this play, but the way race was portrayed during his time as well. Othello was inspired by short story author Giraldi although they are closely related Shakespeare made it his own with his cultural diversity and producing a piece that demonstrates his distaste for the racism in his culture. One of Shakespeare’s influences in writing Othello was a short story author named Giraldi. It is suggested that, “ Shakespeare began writing Othello early in 1603”, which around the time two plays emerged having been inspired by Giraldi himself. (Farley-Hills 104) The speculation around Shakespeare being influenced by the short story author not only comes from the plays rise around the time, but also many theme similarities. One of the themes that revolve around Othello that possibly derived from one of the plays called, Measure for Measure , is Kingship.
