During this time art was changed so that light was a more important factor, and advancements in astronomy and physics occurred. Its three factors (where is occurred) were Italian, Northern, and Aristocratic. 2. The Catholic Reformation was an internal reform and reorganization of the church. Its effort was to win back those who had strayed to Protestantism. 3. Mannerism was a style that was spatially complex, artificial, and affectation. It brought a new psychological intensity and self consciences to visual expression. 4. Bernine achieved a “theatrical effect” in his work by using light in such a way that his work, even his paintings, looked 3D.One of his best known works is “The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa”. 5. Caravaggio also was one of the first artists to use light to imply depth in his photos. Gentileschi was also one of the first artists to use light to imply depth in his photos. 6. Trompe l’oeil is the technique that these artists used to “fool the eye”. Foreshortening is the perspective technique where figures appear to resend or project into space. 7. The King James Bible was an “authorized” English language edition of the Old and New Testaments. John Donne wrote eloquent sermons that challenged the parishioners at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London. Author John Milton wrote “Lost Paradise” about the fall of Adam and Eve. 8. Christopher Wren was the commissioner to rebuild more than fifty churches in London after a fire destroyed most of the city, including St. Paul. He combined elements of classical, gothic, renaissance, and baroque architecture. 9.
