Christie Leigh Fountain April 8, 2008 Chapter 25 Combating the Americans The economic and political theories of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels are certainly displayed in this primary source article. The United States displays actions that are economically determined and show that class struggle is needed to create historical change and that capitalism will ultimately be superseded by communism. The United States illustrates an instance of this by taking over the South Vietnam country. They show that this country is weaker and can be taken over exceptionally without difficulty by a stronger larger country. According to Duiker and Spielvogel, the United States sends in troops, missiles and tactical bombers into South Vietnam. The evidence of Marxism is most certainly represented throughout this article. The whole piece of writing shows signs that appeal to nationalism. Patriotism is revealed when the United States attempts to impose their views and morals onto the southern Vietnam union.
