Christie Fountain Public Speaking 11:00 AM October 29, 2006 Raising Minimum Wage Specific Purpose : To persuade my audience that minimum wage should be raised to a reasonable living expense price. Central Idea : Minimum wage workers have to struggle just to live a normal life, I believe that the rate of minimum wage should be raised substantially so that those workers that do hard can make a decent living. Introduction Attention : I. $5.15 an hour, that is all you make for 40 hours a week. II. Do you actually think that some one can live off of that? III. The American Government seems to think so. IV. Today I would like to encourage all of you to become very aware of this situation that is at hand, and get to know a few facts about this issue. Body Need : I. The federal minimum wage is $5.15 an hour. A. This wage is set by the federal government. B. The federal government does not require that all of the states follow this price, but it is however a recommended guideline.
