name 10-14-06 English 191 How to Cut Cups Do you enjoy getting out on the golf course in the fresh air in the summer? There are many things that go on behind the scenes that are crucial to keeping the course in a good operating condition. One of these is changing the flag location, or as we call it in the industry cutting cups. This is an important task that is done every other day and is important to help keep the greens fresh. With the cups in one location the greens get chewed up quickly around the area of the flag location. Therefore golf course maintenance workers change these to keep the golf game more interesting and to improve your golf conditions. Before you can go out and change these cup locations you must have a system set up so that you know what part of the green you need to change the hole to and so that you do not have repetition in your locations. You must divide each green into nine equal parts on a chart that represents every green. You number these locations 1-9 on your graph. The numbers must be scattered so that they are in different parts of the green, and you must try to keep it interesting. You wouldn’t want to have the flag in the same spot three
