Erosion Lesson Plan 1 Explain erosion, ask students for examples of events that can cause erosion or examples of erosion 2 Define vocabulary associated with the lesson 3 Explain how erosion can occur and how it can be prevented 4 Have students participate in an on-hands activity 1 Have students create their own town in a sandbox along a mock ocean with waves 1 Students will then increase the amount of water, explaining what they see is happening to the sand and the homes closest to the water 2 Have a second set up and add trees and plants alongside the shoreline as the water increases, have students explain the difference between the two set ups and why the plants make a difference 2 Second activity will include three milk jugs, each with a different type of soil set up (pure dirt, mixture, and grass) 1 Students will review the three milk cartons once the water has filtered through and see the effects the different soils have on the water color.
