Whitney Mour Outline: Chapter 11 1. The Four Approaches To Understanding Psychological disorders: - Biological Approach : psychological disorders are due to organic internal causes. Scientist focus on brain and genetic factors as the sources to abnormal behavior. Drug therapy is frequently used to treat the abnormal behavior. - Psychological Approach : there are three perspectives that serve as the foundation for understanding the psychological factors involved in psychological disorders. They include a. Psychodynamic perspectives : Psychological disorders arise from unconscious conflicts that produce anxiety and result in maladaptive behavior. ( Ineffective early relationships with parents are believed to be the origin of psychological disorders) b. Behavioral and social cognitive perspectives : The focus is on the rewards and punishments in the environment that determine abnormal behavior.
