Whitney Mour Chapter 1: The Science of Psychology Outline 1. Scientific Method – four step process: 1). Form a problem 2). Collect research or data information 3). Analyze the data 4). Draw conclusions from the research that was collected Theory – broad idea or set of related an idea that tries to explain certain observations. Theories try to explain why thing occur and they are used to make predictions. Hypothesis - an idea that is produced by a theory. A hypothesis is a prediction that can be tested. 2. The difference between independent and dependent variables is, the independent variable is a variable that can be manipulated with different factors that determine its effect. Where as a dependent variable is a factor that can change in response to the independent variable 3. The goal of a Random Assignment is: to reduce the chance of the experiments results will be altered due to preexisting differences between the groups of subjects.
