Portia Mellott April 2, 2008 Education with Leahy Dead Poet’s Society The Dead Poets Society is a great dramatic movie that shows a teacher’s ability to touch the lives of his students. Robin Williams, who plays John Keating, is a key character that shows his students how to stand up against the establishment called Welton Academy for Boys. Keating introduces a few students to a society in which they recite poetry and learn how to seize the day. One boy, Neil Perry, takes Keating’s advice to heart and follows his dream of becoming an actor. Because of his parent’s disapproval, Neil commits suicide. This tragedy startles the school authorities, and the only one to blame Neil’s death is the teacher John Keating. In the end, Keating is fired because of all the other boys who turned him into the school. The last frame of the movie is a glimpse of hope and loyalty when the boys stand on chairs and face Keating.
