Temple Tucker 2-4-08 “Aint Scared of Your Jails” “Aint Scared of Your Jails” One of the things I took away from this episode is that there is an enormous cost in being the person to step forward. These people must have an even greater character and sense of justice and morality to be able to stand up and be totally outnumbered against the face of injustice. While many people embodied this spirit during the Civil Rights Movement, one group that stood out to me were the Freedom Riders. I think I would have participated in the sit-ins and even been okay with being arrested but the Freedom Riders faced physical violence and possible death. I can't imagine what it must have been like to step off that bus and into that crowd. To see a huge group of men, faces contorted in rage, bricks and bats in hand, and to know that their sole purpose and thought is to beat you senseless, to literally beat the life out of you, must have been terrifying. If I was there, I think I would have stayed
