CONDITIONALSI.CHAPTER OVERVIEWThe conditional sentences and if clauses will be introduced in this paper. Itwill benefit students in gaining a thorough understanding of the matter byrecognizing the components of a conditional statement and their significance inthe English language. It will also go through the many sorts of conditionals andhow they differ. It will provide examples to further describe the topic and assiststudents in comprehending its many sorts. Finally, this report discusses importanttopic that will help students comprehend how various factors may influence thepath of events in our lives and how things do not always go as planned. It willprovide them a glimpse of what may happen, what might have occurred, or whatthey might wish had happened.II.OBJECTIVESAfter the class discussion about this topic, the students should be able to:A.Identify and differentiate conditionals and its types.B.Determine the type of conditional used in a sentence.C.Identify the verb tense that will be used in each conditional type.D.To be able to construct conditional sentences.III.CONTENTConditionals1.Conditionalsare sentences that expresses the concept that the action in the mainclause (the result clause) can only happen when a specified condition (the clausethat begins with if) is fulfilled (Folse, etc., 2013). It is used to think about the following:What actually happens –exact result.What could happen- possible or likely outcome in the future.What we wish would happen- imagining a different outcome for our ownpresent situation.What might have happened- thinking about a different outcome thathappened in the past.2.It usually starts with“if”or“when”and is made up of two clauses: theif clauseknown as thecondition(eventor situation that must happen in order for the otherthing to happen) and themain clauseorresult clause(the result that can onlyalso
happen if the if clause occurs). Theif clausecan be thefirstor thesecondpart ofthe sentence.Examples:1.If you let me cook,I will make it spicy.(IF CLAUSE)(MAIN CLAUSE)I usually make it spicyif I cook(RESULT)(CONDITION)2.If I win the lottery,I will buy a mansion.(IF CLAUSE)(MAIN CLAUSE)I will buy a mansionif I win the lottery.(RESULT)(CONDITION)From the examples above,If you let me cook isthe if clause or the condition thatcan make the result or the main clause,I will make it spicyhappen. Samegoes with thesentence “If I win the lottery, I would buy a mansion.”,the if clause is the first part of thesentence (the condition) and the second part of the sentence would be the main clause (theresult). Both examples given, features an if clause and a main clause which makes thesentences “similar but not the same”. This notion leads us to the different types ofconditionals.
