Spectrophotometric Determination of AspirinNatasha IngrahamCassidy RunyanRobin McCownChemistry 112 – Laboratory 002September 10th, 2013
1.Research Question:a.How does the over the counter pain reliever (Bayer) compare to the different samples of1:50 ASA solution tested, or which sample is the closest to the Bayer sample?2.Observations & Results:a.Utilizing Table 1, seen below, we observed that the Bayer solution we experimented withhad the absorbance level of 0.367. This compares well with between 4 mL and 6 mL of 1:50ASA solution. Since we were only able to complete one tablet of normal aspirin, as theteacher requested, we weren’t able to complete a table comparing two brands. The onlyaspirin we were able to compare with the sample 1:50 ASA solution was the Bayer brand. These statistics are located below in Table 2. All calculations can be found on pages 3 and 4of the laboratory notebook. The graph for 1:50 ASA absorbencies can be found on the backpage of this laboratory write up.
