Running head: WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT 1 DISCUSSION2Mr. Wilko states that he is a social drinker, and he claims that he “can stop at any time.” His self-assessment is not accurate at all, which is the first sign of denial when it comes to alcohol abuse. Mr. Wilko has several stressors such as, an economic downturn in the housing industry, which is affecting his sales quota, and his income. Several of his co-workers have been laid off due to the decrease in sales in which Mr. Wilko’s feels that he can be laid off next, because of the downward spiral of sales within the firm. Mr. Wilko has been notified that his chances are possible for termination if his sales, and his attendance at work do not improve, which is adding to his stress. Mr. and Mrs. Wilko have been quarreling regularly due to finances, and their teenage children are constantly asking for money, which is putting Mr. Wilko in more of a stressful mode. Consequently, Mr. Wilko has recently been fired from his firm due to coming to work with alcohol on his breath.Mr. Wilko continues to consume alcohol because he has been fired off from his job. He has no income, and arguing with his wife over money continues while he is home. Mr. Wilko is obviously trying to forget his problems, and drinking; in his point of view, Mr. Wilko is able to numb himself of the pain and shame that he is now facing. Even though he is searching for employment, he is still continuing to drink which is keeping him from getting hired. Mr. Wilko isexperiencing periodic or chronic depression, which is causing him to drink more. Individuals who drink are using alcohol as a means of coping with the stress of their job, economic stress, problems with their relationship, and not receiving or accepting social support from family and friends, which causes more stress, depression, and more of alcohol consumption (Understanding Alcohol Abuse -Symptoms (2015).
